STURGIS – Pierre Governor Baseball began its 2022 season with a doubleheader sweep Friday at Sturgis, 12-2 and 9-7.
Brady Getz pitched a five-hit complete game in the opener, striking out three and walking one. He received immediate offensive support with five first-inning runs. A six-run fifth inning led to a run-rule game. Gary Nedved was 3-for-3 with two doubles, a single and an RBI. Jett Zabel had two hits, including an RBI double. Lincoln Kienholz hit a two-run triple.
In the nightcap, the Governors had leads of 8-2 and 9-4 before hanging on for the win. Spencer Kelly was the winning pitcher. Grayson Hunsley singled and drove in two runs. Brecken Krueger and Kienholz had two-run doubles.
The Governors will play Saturday at Rapid City Central.
