WEST CHESTER, PA – Team South Dakota’s 14 & under and 19 & under girls teams won Saturday to qualify for Sunday’s quarterfinal round of the USA Hockey Tier II National Championships.
Fort Pierre’s Brylee Kafka scored twice and set up two other goals as the 14 & under team completed pool play with a 7-1 win over the Tri-Valley Lady Blue Devils (CA). Kafka scored the game-winning goal just over five minutes into a three-goal second period for Team South Dakota, who will play the Tri-City Eagles in a quarterfinal game Sunday at 7:15 AM CT.
Though no Pierre players contributed, the Team South Dakota 19 & under team advanced to the quarterfinals with a 2-0 victory over the San Jose Sharks (CA), the team’s only win in pool play. This team will play the San Diego Angels (CA) in a quarterfinal game Sunday at 1:15 PM CT.
The 16 & under team for Team SD lost to Fairbanks HC (AK) 4-3 and went 0-3 in pool play, not qualifying for the quarterfinals.
