South Dakota topsoils rated 76% very short or short on moisture

For the week ending April 3, 2022, there were 3.5 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.

Topsoil moisture supplies rated 23% very short, 44% short, 32% adequate, and 1% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 22% very short, 46% short, 31% adequate, and 1% surplus.

Field Crops Report:

Winter wheat condition rated 0% very poor, 10% poor, 63% fair, 27% good, and 0% excellent.

Spring wheat planted was 6%, near 9% last year and 4% for the five-year average.

Oats planted was 9%, near 5% last year, and ahead of 2% average. Emerged was 1%.
