LONDON (AP) — A London judge has ruled against Prince Harry in his efforts to pay for police protection when he visits Britain. The ruling Tuesday (May 23, 2023) rejected the Duke of Sussex’s assertion that the British government exceeded its authority when it denied his request to hire police. The British government stopped providing security after Harry and his wife, Meghan, quit their royal duties and moved to California in 2020. Harry said he doesn’t feel safe visiting with his young children and has cited aggressive paparazzi. He is separately challenging the decision to deny him government-paid security.

During a hearing at the High Court in London on Friday (March 17, 2023), Harry’s lead attorney asked a judge to strike out the publisher’s defense or to deliver a summary judgment that would rule in the prince’s favor without going to trial.
JULY 23, 2022:
LONDON (AP) — A judge has ruled that Prince Harry can take the British government to court over his security arrangements when he visits the U.K. Harry and his wife Meghan lost publicly funded police protection when they stepped down as senior working royals and moved to North America in 2020. The prince wants to pay personally for police security when he comes to Britain, and is challenging the government’s refusal to permit it. Judge Jonathan Swift ruled Friday (July 22, 2022) that aspects of the challenge “give rise to an arguable case” that deserves a full hearing. A date has not been set for the case.
