Farm and ranch production expenditures for the Plains Region– which includes South Dakota– totaled $99.2 billion in 2021.
The US Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service says that’s up from $85.3 billion in 2020.
The Plains Region includes North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas.
These results are based on data collected this year (2022) from farmers and ranchers in the Plains Region who participated in the Agricultural Resource Management Survey conducted by USDA NASS. Producers were contacted in January through April to collect 2021 farm and ranch expense data.
