Let’s take a look at some Feel Good Friday stories…
1. Gregory D’Alessio was fishing near Maryland Solomons Island when he caught something more exciting than a fish, it was a message in a bottle. Prior to this he broke his favorite rod due to trying to reel in a big Rockfish and lost it, so he was feeling pretty unlucky. “I saw this big bottle floating just off the dock of Bunkys Charter boat rental so I went over to it to get it out of the water so I could throw it away when I got back to shore,” he said. The bottle turned out to contain an obituary and several small, rolled-up notes. The obituary was for Maryland woman Emma Jean Ennis, who died at the age of 82 in January 2021.
2. A cop on Long Island just delivered his fifth baby in five years. A woman gave birth in her living room on Saturday, and he helped coach her through it. Now people are calling him the “Baby Whisperer.”
3. A guy flew from California to South Carolina to see his family for Thanksgiving last week. And they knew he wouldn’t be making it in for Christmas this year. So his grandma surprised him by doing his Christmas early, and it’s on video. She put her tree up, had everyone bring a gift, and he got pretty emotional about it.
4. A guy in Georgia named Denver Peardon is using his Christmas tree to pay tribute to veterans again this year. He runs a mobile museum called the Military History Preservation Group. All his ornaments are photos of vets he’s met in person. This year’s tree has 184 of them.
5. A couple in Arizona just got married in the same grocery store aisle where they met last year. He’s 78, and she’s 72. They were both buying mayonnaise when they started chatting. Then he proposed to her in the same spot earlier this year. And they went back last month to tie the knot. (Here’s a photo.)
6. A guy in Ohio found a bunch of FedEx boxes on the side of the highway and hand-delivered them himself. He says he saw a delivery driver dump them there. FedEx is now investigating.
7. A guy in New Hampshire accidentally threw out his wife’s wedding and engagement rings after she cleaned them and left them in a paper towel. But sanitation workers helped dig through a mountain of trash and found them. He bought pizza for everyone to say thanks. (Here’s a photo.)
8. What a great idea this is: Pittsburgh is looking for volunteers for a program called Snow Angels that helps clear snow for elderly and disabled people. So all winter, they’ll have their driveways and sidewalks shoveled for free.
9. A 105-year-old woman in Cherryville, North Carolina named Lorene Summey just had her first birthday party this month. She’d never had one until now, so her senior living center went big with line dancers, a pony, and a visit from the mayor. She was also hoping to get 105 birthday cards, and ended up with more than 1,200 of them. And this detail’s fun too: She’s currently dating a guy named Joseph . . . who’s only 66 years old. (Here’s a photo of her.)
10. A Florida cop who doesn’t know how to swim jumped into a retention pond in Jacksonville to save a drowning baby. It happened in June, but her bodycam footage was just released. She pulled him out and did CPR until another cop took over. The video stops at that point, but the kid eventually started breathing again.
11. A group of women went to a Waffle House in Alabama for an early Friendsgiving last month, and left their waitress a $1,125 tip. Their bill was only 75 bucks.
12. An off-duty firefighter in Connecticut was on his way home from work at 3:00 A.M. last Saturday, and pulled a woman from a burning car. An ambulance was pulling up when it happened, and the dash-cam caught it on video.
13. A guy in Kansas says his six-year-old pit bull saved his life on Sunday. He fell asleep watching football . . . woke up to her nudging his head . . . and realized his house was on fire. The home is a total loss, but he and the dog made it out.
14. Instead of shopping on Black Friday, a couple in Southern California decided to go camping . . . came across a hiker who’d been lost for two weeks . . . and helped rescue him. His feet were swollen and infected from all the walking he’d done. He didn’t have a phone with him, but managed to survive on a half-jar of salsa he’d brought along.
