ABERDEEN – In the last four days, no one in South Dakota high school basketball has matched what Aberdeen Central guard Spencer Barr is doing.
Barr scored 51 points Tuesday and had 14 of Aberdeen Central’s 16 points after regulation as the Golden Eagles outlasted the Pierre Governors 84-82 in double overtime at Golden Eagle Arena.
Barr, who scored 35 Saturday in Aberdeen Central’s 68-57 win over Brandon Valley, hit a tying layup at the end of the first overtime to tie the game at 78, then gave the Golden Eagles the lead for good with 2:20 left in the second overtime with his seventh three-pointer of the game.
Ben Heisler gave Pierre (7-4) a chance to force a third overtime with a layup just before the final buzzer, but was blocked by Grant Fritz, who had blocked a layup try of Jackson Edman earlier in the second extra period.
Lincoln Kienholz led Pierre with 33 points and hit four three-pointers. Heisler scored 18. Edman had 14 points, including 12 after halftime.
Aberdeen Central (3-6) hit 16 three-pointers overall.
