The value of egg production in South Dakota during 2022 was $96.4 million, up $59.2 million from $37.2 million in 2021, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.
Egg production in 2022 was estimated at 593 million eggs, down 107 million from the previous year. Average number of layers for 2022 at 1.91 million was down 311,000 from 2021.
South Dakota producers raised 2.50 million turkeys in 2022, down 1.50 million birds from 2021.
The value of this production was $120 million in 2022, down $31.9 million from $151 million in 2021. Pounds produced in 2022 totaled 112 million, down 72.4 million from 184 million pounds produced in 2021.
