A Sioux Falls High School Freshman is the winner of a $10,000 prize – and another $10,000 for his school – by promising to be a safe driver.
Robbie Sealey was announced Wednesday (May 10, 2023) as the winner of this year’s Lesson Learned SD program during an all-school assembly at Sioux Falls O’Gorman High School. The program is in its 7th year and is sponsored by the South Dakota Office of Highway Safety and the South Dakota Broadcasters Association.
“The Lesson Learned program is a way for us to encourage young drivers to start using the habits that will help make them safe drivers throughout their lives,” said Department of Public Safety Cabinet Secretary Craig Price.
Students answered safe driving questions on the Lesson Learned SD website and were entered into the drawing. This year, there were nearly 4,500 entries.
“I think the message we’re sending to students and schools across our state is an incredibly important one,” said Steve Willard, president of the Broadcasters Association. “The chance to reward students and their schools for their participation while bringing awareness to the importance of safe driving really provides a win-win scenario for everyone involved.”
South Dakota’s Office of Highway Safety is an agency of the state Department of Public Safety.
