24-year-old man from Corsica killed in highway maintainer vs vehicle accident last week in Davison County

DECEMBER 11, 2023:

A 24-year-old man died Wednesday morning (Dec. 6, 2023) in a two vehicle crash in Davison County.

Preliminary crash information from the South Dakota Highway Patrol indicates a 2014 Caterpillar highway maintainer driven by Steven Leroy Groseth, 63, of Corsica, SD, was driving northbound on 397^th Avenue. A 2011 Chrysler 200 was traveling southbound on 397^th Ave at the I-90 overpass.

The Caterpillar was drifting into the ditch but overcorrected crossing the center line into the path of Chrysler 200. The vehicles collided in the southbound lane of the roadway. The driver of the Chrysler, Calvin John Boluyt, of Corsica, was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt. The driver of the Caterpillar was not injured.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

One person died Wednesday morning (Dec. 6, 2023, 10:53am) in a two vehicle crash in Davison County.

The names of the persons involved have not been released pending notification of family members.

The 63 year old male driver of the Caterpillar was drifting into the ditch but overcorrected crossing the center line into the path of a Chrysler 200, driven by a 24 year old male. The vehicles collided in the southbound lane of the roadway. The driver of the Chrysler has pronounced deceased at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt. The driver of the Caterpillar was not injured.
