PIERRE – Another close loss saw the Pierre Trappers lose to the Souris Valley Sabre Dogs Wednesday night at Hyde Stadium 6-5. Pierre is now 1-4 in one-run games.
Justin Cooper hit a go-ahead RBI single in the top of the ninth for Souris Valley off losing pitcher Grant Smitz (0-1).
The Trappers trailed 2-0 after a half-inning, but tied the game with two second-inning runs on an RBI single by Mitch Stroh and a passed ball. Pierre then grabbed a 4-2 lead in the third on a two-run single by Billy Moreland.
Souris Valley took the lead back with three in the sixth inning before the Trappers tied the game in the home seventh on Zane Phelps’ first home run.
Starter Koby Bishop struck out eight in five and two-thirds innings, but allowed five runs, all unearned as the Trappers committed three errors.
The Trappers are 8-12 and will again host Souris Valley Thursday night at 7:05 at Hyde Stadium.
