Pierre Governor Football Head Coach Steve Steele will be honored Sunday as the South Dakota High School Coaches’ Association 2019 Football Coach of the Year. The awards luncheon will be held Sunday at 1:00 PM in Mitchell at the Highland Conference Center.
Steele will be recognized for leading the Governors to a perfect 12-0 record and the school’s third straight 11AA championship.
Steele said that he is honored to receive the award, but also deflected praise to others.
Four new members will be inducted into the SDHSCA Hall of Fame, including Aberdeen Central’s Dawn Seiler, the winningest head coach in South Dakota girls’ basketball history. Also inducted will be Jason Olson, who led Rapid City Stevens girls’ tennis to four team state championships and the boys’ team to three, former longtime Watertown boys’ basketball head coach Dave Wolsky, and Mick Wysuph, former state champion head coach at Rapid City Stevens.
Other coaches and athletic administrators will be presented yearly awards.
