PIERRE – Thursday’s final regular season game for the Pierre Governors almost certainly won’t change were they stand in 11AA, which currently is third. But their clash with the Douglas Patriots at Hollister Field at Phil Trautner Stadium is a chance to make sure everything is running well before next’s week playoff quarterfinal.
Governor Head Coach Steve Steele said that this is an important game to keep improving.
Steele was asked how closely the Governors have improved through this season as to what was expected.
Steele credited the Pierre defense for being very strong against Mitchell.
Steele said that tailback Maguire Raske continues to do a lot, even though his carries are down lately.
Quarterback Lincoln Kienholz, according to Steele, was excellent against Mitchell.
Steele noted the big size of Douglas.
Steele talked about the mindset of having to go against big linemen.
Douglas is 1-6, with the Patriots’ only win coming against Class A Belle Fourche. Pierre is 5-2. These teams will meet Thursday, and you can hear it on the official voice of the Pierre Governors, River 92.7, starting at 5:30.
