I will be the first to tell you that I’m a workaholic! I absolutely love radio and have no idea what I would do without it. Sometimes when I’m away from work, I have a hard time unplugging. The last time I was on vacation, I had a client call me twice and a few emails come through that couldn’t wait until I got back to take care of. Other than that I unplugged. David was recently on vacation and he said he didn’t open his email once. I don’t blame him one bit.
Yahoo News did an article saying we need to unplug from work for both our mental health as well as our physical health. The article says 33% of vacation days in 2020 went unused from the pandemic. That’s because folks are forced to work remotely and you really couldn’t do much. The article says working over 55 hours a week can cause both physical and mental health issues. Those that do work those many hours have a higher risk of heart disease. They say that when you take a vacation and relax, your body is able to function better. When you get back to work, you might see an increase in stress, but you should feel better about being there!
So yes… vacations are very important. Take them when you feel burned out and take advantage of the time you have away from the job! It’s very important for your physical and mental health!
