A federal judge has sentenced a 27-year-old Fort Thompson, South Dakota, man convicted of Assault Resulting in Substantial Bodily Injury.
Austin Paul Abernathy was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison, followed by 3 years of supervised release.
The conviction stems from an incident in August, 2017, when BIA Law Enforcement was summoned to a residence in Fort Thompson, in response to an assault. The victim, who was dating Abernathy at the time, needed 12 stitches.
Abernathy was immediately turned over to the custody of the US Marshals Service.
