A 20-year-old woman died in a one vehicle rollover accident last evening (Tues.) on Sansarc Road 12 miles north of Hayes in northwestern Stanley County.
According to the South Dakota Highway Patrol, a 2002 Ford Expedition was westbound on Sansarc Road shortly after 7:30pm when the driver lost control trying to avoid a deer that had entered the roadway. The vehicle went into the ditch and rolled, coming to rest on its roof.
The 20-year-old female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The 45-year-old female driver suffered minor injuries and was transported to the Pierre hospital. Both occupants were wearing seatbelts. No charges are pending against the driver.
The names of the deceased or the person injured have not been released pending notification of family members. They were the only two people involved.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating.
