Two of Sting’s major hits for the Police scored 2021 BMI Awards for recognition of airplay. 1983’s “Every Breath You Take” remains the number one song in BMI’s repertoire, with 16 million performances of the song.
Sting’s 1982 Ghost In The Machine classic, “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic” was recognized for eight million airplays — as was John Deacon’s “Another One Bites The Dust” and Brian May’s “We Will Rock You” for Queen; Mick Jagger and Keith Richards’ “Honky Tonk Women”; and Steve Winwood’s “Higher Love.” Sting was also saluted for his co-write with Mark Knopfler on 1985’s “Money For Nothing,” which was saluted for seven million airplays.
Elton John’s 1970’s hits “Bennie And The Jets” and “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” both reached seven million performances, with “I Guess That’s Why They Call It the Blues,” hitting the six million mark.
Sting revealed back in the day that the legendary hits off the Police’s 1983 final album Synchronicity had a direct connection to the world of 007.
Sting kicks off his eight show “My Songs” Las Vegas residency on October 29th.
His upcoming album, The Bridge, is set for release on November 19th.
