PIERRE – Faulkton Area High School principal Craig Cassens has been elected chairman of the South Dakota High School Activities Association Board of Directors. Groton Area school board member Marty Weismantel was elected representative of the small school group. Rapid City Central principal Michael Talley will serve as large school group representative. There will be a runoff election in July for the East River at-large board position between Tom Culver, superintendent of Avon schools, and Chester Area Superintendent Heath Larson. Pierre Superintendent Dr. Kelly Glodt missed being in the runoff by one vote.
Also at its final meeting of the 2019-20 school year on Thursday, the board approved a proposal to shorten the moratorium on summer workouts, normally July 1 through 7, to July 3 through 5 for this year only, and to lengthen the summer contact period by two days through August 2.
And Fine Designs Inc, of Grimes, Iowa, was awarded a three-year contract to be the SDHSAA’s souvenir vendor.
