A 61-year-old Black Hawk, SD, man is dead after a construction accident yesterday (Tues.) afternoon at a gravel pit west of Fort Pierre.
According to the Stanley County Sheriff’s Office, Steven Pigsley was working for a Rapid City subcontractor for the repaving of SD Highway 34. He drove his truck to the Cody Briggs Gravel Pit where he got out to hook up a chain from a loader to his truck. The loader operator didn’t see the driver get out and Pigsley was crushed between the loader and his truck. Pigsley was pronounced dead at the scene.
Other agencies on scene were AMR Ambulance Service, the Stanley County Coroner’s Office and the SD Highway Patrol.
