No one was hurt, but a shed, tractor and over 80 corn stalk bales are a complete loss after a fire yesterday (Tues.) afternoon just outside of Pierre.
Pierre Rural Fire assistant chief Byron Caauwe says they were called out about 4:15pm.
Caauwe says firefighters first concern was cooling down a diesel fuel tank next to the shed.
Being able to cool the diesel tank down before it exploded, is a testament to how quickly Pierre Rural Volunteer Fire Department firefighters responded.
He says they think the fire started inside the shed.
Caauwe says the Fort Pierre Volunteer Fire Department brought out water. Pierre Rescue and the Hughes County Sheriff’s Office were also on scene.
