RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) – A Rapid City man accused of illegally baiting a mountain lion with dead deer has been sentenced on state and federal charges.
The Rapid City Journal reports 21-year-old Mason Hamm recently pleaded guilty in federal court to hunting with an unregistered firearm and was sentenced to eight months in prison. He admitted killing a mountain lion in January 2016 using a rifle with a silencer that wasn’t registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Hamm also was sentenced to serve four days in jail on state hunting misdemeanors to which he pleaded guilty.
Hamm’s hunting companion, William Colson VI of Rapid City, was sentenced in February to probation, banned from hunting for nine years and fined $11,000.
