Most of Pierre’s City Commissioners will soon be looking at city operations from a different perspective. That’s because, beginning July 1, three out of the five members of the Pierre City Commission will have different oversight duties.
By ordinance, the City’s elected leaders are assigned to different areas of City operations; throughout the assignment, they focus their energies on their particular assigned areas.
“We do like to occasionally move the commissioners around,” said Pierre Mayor Steve Harding. “It helps give the commissioners a more global perspective on city business, and provides a fresh set of eyes on the different departments.”
Mayor Harding went on to say that the assignments are often reviewed following an election. The assignments are made by the Mayor after input is provided by each commissioner. New commission department and board assignments are as follows.
