The Bassmaster Elite Fishing Tournament Series is in South Dakota for the first time ever. Fishing started this (Fri.) morning on Lake Oahe.
For the first two days of the tournament, 108 Elites are competing. After Saturday’s weighins, the field is cut to 50 teams going out on Sunday. The field will be cut down to 12 for Monday’s final day of competition.
Pierre Area Chamber of Commerce Convention and Visitors Bureau director Lois Ries says boats launch at 6am each day at Spring Creek with weighins starting at 3pm at Steamboat Park in Pierre.
Pierre mayor Steve Harding says the Bassmaster Elite Tournament has brought hundreds of people to the area.
As part of the Great Outdoor Festival, activities are also being held in Fort Pierre, most of which are based at Fischers Lilly Park and Teton Island. But, mayor Gloria Hanson says activities are being held throughout town.
Lake Oahe is the 7th stop for this year’s Bassmaster Elite Fishing Tournament Series. The lake covers 370-thousand acres, starting from the Pierre/Fort Pierre area in central South Dakota and stretching north up into North Dakota. According to the Bassmasters’ website, if you take out the Great Lakes and Great Salt Lake, Lake Oahe is the biggest lake by volume in the US.
