Continued high mountain snowpack runoff will keep levels elevated on the Missouri River through the summer, and into the fall.
The US Army Corps of Engineers issued new forecasts for the river last week.
Chief of the Missouri River Basin Water Management Division John Remus says flood control is their primary consideration as they move through the summer.
Corps hydrologist Kevin Stamm says they expect runoff in July to be about 160 percent of average.
Stam says June runoff into the system above Sioux City was about 300 percent of normal.
Corps senior hydraulic engineer Joel Knofczynski says reservoir storage is into the flood pool.
The Corps says they expect to maintain the high flows into fall to get the upstream reservoirs down to winter levels.
