The eastbound driving lane of Interstate 90 near Murdo, SD, was partially blocked for about two hours yesterday (Sun.) after wind blew a semi onto its side near mile marker 180.
According to the South Dakota Highway Patrol, a 2019 Volvo semi, driven by a 54-year-old female from South Carolina, was headed east about 6:30pm when a wind gust from a severe thunderstorm caused the trailer to roll onto the passenger side. Along with the semi, some high tension wires and the guard rail were damaged.
The female driver was not wearing a seatbelt. She sustained minor injuries. Her 55-year-old male passenger was also not wearing a seatbelt. He sustained serious, non life threatening injuries. Both were taken by ambulance to Avera St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre. No charges are pending.
