Because of recent heavy rainfall and dangerous water conditions, B.A.S.S. officials decided to postpone the eighth stop on the 2018 Bassmaster Elite Series today (Thurs.) through Saturday at Upper Chesapeake Bay out of Harford County, MD.
While they won’t be competing this week, many of the Elites may still be remembering their experience on the Series’ seventh stop at Lake Oahe earlier this month.
Boyd Duckett of Guntersville, AL, placed fourth on Oahe. He said it’s a “giant body of water” to fish, made even more challenging by the wind.
Casey Ashley from Donalds, SC, finished second at Oahe. He said one of his favorite parts of fishing it was none of the Elites knew anything about the 370-thousand acre impoundment.
Clifford Pirch of Payson, AZ, struggled to find the smallmouth bass the first day of the Oahe tournament, but brought in big weights the other three days.
Over the course of the four day Oahe tournament, Elites caught 1231 smallmouth bass with a total weight of 2733 pounds, 4 ounces.
Tournament director Trip Weldon says the Upper Chesapeake Bay stop will likely be scheduled for later in the 2018 Bassmaster Elite Series season, which ends with the Bassmaster Angler of the Year Championship in September.
