Three new statues were placed along the Trail of Governors in Pierre this week, but the displays aren’t complete.
Trail of Governors founding board member Leroy Foster says while the bronze statues have been placed, informational plaques aren’t up because more money need to be raised.
Foster says the likenesses of former Govs. Ralph Herseth, William McMaster and M.Q. Sharpe make 22 bronze statues now on display around Pierre.
Statues of current Gov. Dennis Daugaard and two yet to be determined former governors are on the schedule for going up next year. The Trail of Governors is paid for using private donations, not state or government funds.
