Five people were treated for minor injuries at the hospital in Pierre after a two vehicle accident yesterday afternoon south of Murdo.
According to the South Dakota Highway Patrol, 65-year-old Deborah Haverland of Westminster, CO, was southbound on US Highway 83 about 2:30pm when the 2009 Kia Spectra drifted across the center line. The Spectra hit a northbound, 2013 Chevrolet Traverse. The Traverse rolled one time and came to rest on its wheels in the west ditch.
Charges are pending against Haverland. She, the 72-year-old male driver of the Traverse and his three passengers—a 73-year-old male, a 73-year-old female and a 70-year-old female–were all wearing seatbelts.
The Highway Patrol is investigating.
