PIERRE, S.D. – A Pierre team fell short of a state championship as the Men’s D Division USA Softball South Dakota State Slow Pitch Softball tournament was played last weekend in Pierre. Cone Ag got to the championship game of the tournament before falling to Katzer Trucking of Sioux Falls 9-8 in the championship game. Cone Ag had the tying run on third base in the final inning but could not get the run across the plate. It was the second meeting in the tournament between the two teams. Katzer Trucking won the first 16-4 to earn a berth in the championship game and send Cone Ag to the playback bracket where they defeated Lagers Coors Light 7-6. It was the second consecutive year that Cone Ag got the championship game. Last year they won the a title. The other Pierre team in the 10 team tournament, Baumann Lumber went 0 and 2 losing to Pack 13-4 in their first game and then were eliminated by Culligan-Road House 11-9.
