A 49-year-old Sioux Falls man faces multiple charges after a high speed chase this week through three eastern South Dakota counties.
Brookings County Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring says police pursuit tore through parts of Moody, Lake and Brookings Counties late Wednesday night and a suspect was arrested southwest of Brookings yesterday (Thurs.) morning.
Sebring says their deputies assisted as the chase entered Brookings County and went down several township roads and into the Lake Campbell area.
The suspect vehicle got hung up on a landscape rock in a yard on Country Club Drive. A Moody County Deputy positioned his vehicle behind the suspect who accelerated rapidly in reverse, coming off of the rock and hitting the deputy’s vehicle, causing disabling damage.
The pursuit continued at speeds up to 100 miles an hour. The pursuing units eventually lost sight of the vehicle and were unable to locate it.
Yesterday morning, a citizen reported a man walking on a rural road. Deputies responded and found it was the pursuit suspect. The vehicle was located in a slough.
The driver is identified as 49-year-old David Keith Schultz of Sioux Falls. Sebring says he was found to be under the influence of narcotics.
Schultz is charged with intentional damage to property, reckless driving, speeding, lane violations, aggravated eluding, stop sign violation, ingestion of a controlled substance and DUI.
Bond has been set at $2500.
