PIERRE, S.D. – The Pierre Fall Fast Pitch varsity softball team would split their home opener to Madison Sunday at the Pierre softball complex. In the first game Pierre bats came out on fire in the 1st putting up 5 runs. Strong, powerful hitting from Alleycen Herrman, Jessie Buntrock, Mattie Jones, Lauren Sharkey, and Hailey Switzer would amass 8 of the 10 Pierre runs in a 10-9 come from behind thriller. Jones had a home run among her two hists. Sharkey had 3 hits. Jessie Buntrock would pitch a solid game for Pierre, allowing 11 hits against 36 batters, and amassing 5 strikeouts. In the nightcap Pierre would lose 11-3 behind strong Madison hitting. Buntrock was again asked to take the hill, pitching her 4th game of the weekend. She helped her caused going 2-3 with a single and a double. On Friday, Pierre traveled to Mitchell to face Douglas and Rapid City. Pierre downed Douglas 7-6 as Alleycen Herrman would crush a one hop rocket shot to the fence for an inside the park, 2-run homerun to win the game. Kaycee Carter had 3 hits and made 4 outstanding defensive plays in center field. But the second game belonged to Rapid City as they downed Pierre 11-3. The Pierre JV lost a good game to Tri-valley 6-5, and lost their 2nd game 5-0 to a very strong Aberdeen club. The Pierre varsity will host Tea in its final home stand next Sunday with the first pitch at 12:30.
