The Lower Brule Sioux Tribe has been awarded the 2018 Excellence in Cooperative Conservation Award from USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service in South Dakota.
The other two finalists for the award were the SD Corn Growers Association and SD Ducks Unlimited.
NRCS State Conservationist Jeff Zimprich says Lower Brule’s efforts are a great example of collaboration.
Zimprich says some of the “crazy good” conservation practices the Lower Brule tribe is doing involve cover crops, wind breaks and wildlife.
NRCS presented the award at the state convention of the SD Association of Conservation Districts this week in Pierre.
