PIERRE, S.D. – The Pierre Athletic Coaches Association (PACA) has named it’s Avera Riggs High School Athletes of the Week. Abbi Kitts of the Lady Governor volleyball team was named as was the Defensive Line of the Governor football team, who shut down and shut out Brookings last Friday. Kitts is the leader on defense according to Lady Governor head coach Chris Swiden. He says she leads the team in digs and is one of the best in serve receive. Abbi has also taken on calling servers for our players in which she has put extra time in film study and meetings to know where and what we would like Pierre’s servers to do. The team has played much better since she has taken on this responsibility. The Governor Defensive Line consisting of Nathan Schnabel, Grey Zabel, Preston Taylor, Gunnar Gehring set the tone all night long in the Govs 28-0 shutout win over the Brookings Bobcats. Head coach Steve Steele says they clogged running lanes all game long as the Governor D held Brookings to just 65 rushing yards on the night, and only allowed Brookings to run a total of 41 offensive plays.
