DPS Secretary Trevor Jones announced Wednesday that he has accepted a position with Dakota State University, working in the university’s digital forensics lab.
“I thank Trevor Jones for his service. Shortly after I took office, our state faced the major challenge of Missouri River flooding, and Trevor’s leadership was crucial to our successful response,” said Gov. Daugaard. “Throughout my administration, Trevor has helped to keep South Dakotans safe through his efforts at the Department. I wish him well in the future.”
Jones has led the Department of Public Safety throughout the Daugaard administration, following a 20-year career in law enforcement. He will transition out of the Department over the next few weeks. Following his departure, Deputy Secretary Shawnie Rechtenbaugh will serve as Interim Secretary for the balance of the administration.
