The music teacher for the Mobridge-Pollock School District is among the five regional finalists to be the 2019 South Dakota Teacher of the Year.
The winner will be announced tomorrow (Thurs.) evening during a special recognition banquet as part of the annual Systems Change Conference. The finalists were chosen to represent their districts and regions because of the outstanding work they do.
The finalists for the 2019 South Dakota Teacher of the Year include:
• Region #1: Anita Boeck, math, Arlington School District
• Region #2: Sarah Darling, first grade, Brandon Elementary
• Region #3: Erica Boomsma, fourth grade, Washington 4-5 Center (Huron)
• Region #4: Lisa Zahn, music, Mobridge-Pollock School District
• Region #5: Mary Day, business education and computer technology, Belle Fourche High School
The National Teacher of the Year Program began in 1952 and continues as the oldest, most prestigious national honors program that focuses public attention on excellence in teaching. South Dakota’s new Teacher of the Year will go on for consideration at the national level. The 2018 National Teacher of the Year will be announced during a ceremony in Washington, D.C., in the spring.
