Three of the four candidates on the ballot for District 24’s two seats in the South Dakota House of Representatives discussed a variety of topics at a recent candidate forum.
One subject was whether or not candidates support adding early childhood education to the public school system.
Incumbent republican representative Tim Rounds said he isn’t against it, but also doesn’t know how the state could pay for it.
Democratic challenger Terry Keller thinks it’d be beneficial for parents to have the option of early childhood education as part of the public school system—if they want to use it.
Incumbent republican representative Mary Duvall said it’s something the legislature needs to seriously consider.
Democratic challenger Brian Watterson didn’t attend the forum hosted by the Pierre Area Chamber of Commerce and the League of Women Voters Pierre.
