Names have been released of the six people involved in a two-vehicle fatal crash that occurred Sunday afternoon west of Leola.
Two children died in the crash and four others were injured.
A 2001 Buick Park Avenue was eastbound on South Dakota Highway 10 when the vehicle left the roadway and entered the south ditch. The driver over corrected back onto the roadway where the vehicle collided with a westbound 2004 Cadillac Deville.
Two child passengers in the Buick died at the scene. They were Josephine Van Duysen, 4, and Michael Van Duysen III, 2. Both were in safety restraints.
The two other occupants in the Buick, both females, suffered life-threatening injuries. The 28-year-old driver, Breannah Van Duysen, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle. A seven-year-old female passenger, Raelynn Van Duysen, was wearing a seatbelt.
All four are from Wagner, S.D.
Both occupants in the Cadillac were wearing seatbelts. Marion Hoffman, the 83-year-old driver, suffered minor injuries while Marvin Hoffman, the 83-year-old passenger, sustained serious, non-life threatening injuries. Both are from Leola.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
