Avera St. Mary’s in Pierre will hold an active shooter training exercise tomorrow (Wed. Nov. 14) afternoon. The exercise will start about 3pm and take place at Avera Medical Group Pierre, the Helmsley Center and Avera St. Mary’s Hospital.
The Pierre Police department and American Medical Response ambulance will take part in the drill. “Victims” will be transported to the Avera St. Mary’s Emergency Department.
Exercise participants will wear colored vests and there will be an increase in law enforcement presence on the Avera St. Mary’s premises tomorrow afternoon. But, there is no cause for concern and patient appointments and care will continue as normal throughout the exercise.
