Avera St. Mary’s Hospital, the Pierre Police Department, Hughes County Sheriff’s Office, AMR Ambulance Service and the South Dakota Highway Patrol all participated in an active shooter drill Wednesday afternoon at the hospital campus in Pierre.
The drill involved an active shooter with casualties and two hostages. Drills like this are vital to ensuring all entities are on the same page should a real situation arise. In the photos, local law enforcement are clearing rooms in the hospital and have located the suspect and hostages.
