South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley will return to private practice when he leaves office in January.
Jackley will return to the Rapid City-based Gunderson, Palmer, Nelson & Ashmore, LLP Law Firm as a partner, establishing a branch of the firm in Pierre. He left the firm in 2006 when he was nominated by Pres. George W. Bush to be the United States Attorney for the District of South Dakota.
Earlier this year, Jackley successfully argued before the Supreme Court of the United States in South Dakota v. Wayfair, forcing out of state companies meeting specific criteria to remit sales tax to the state. Jackley said the win gives main street businesses across South Dakota and the nation a level playing field.
