BOX ELDER, S.D. — Emily Mikkelsen scored 22 points, including the 1,000th point of her career to lead the Pierre Lady Governors to their first basketball win of the season as they topped Douglas, 66-48. Pierre outscored the Patriots 26-12 in the fourth quarter to break open a close game to earn their first win in nine tries this season, hitting 20 of 24 free throws along the way, all but one of those in the second half. They also shot better than 50 percent from the field. Kylie Kessler added 18 for the Lady Govs, while Jordan Tolliver paced Douglas with 17. Mikkelsen becomes just the fourth Lady Gov to reach the point milestone for a career, joining an elite sorority that also includes only Karen Hasek, Steph Paluch and Sydney Palmer. Pierre will travel to Yankton on Friday.
