PIERRE, S.D. – The Pierre Governors pulled a victory out of the loss column Thursday night as they edged Sturgis 55-53 in overtime at Riggs High Gym. The Governors led throughout the first three quarters and led by as many as 14. But then saw an 11 point lead at the 3rd quarter point break turn into a 3 point deficit with less than 5 seconds remaining when Jack Maher hit a 3 pointer as time expired to extend the game to the overtime period. Garrett Stout for a second straight game scored a driving layup with 6 seconds left to give the Governors the lead and then Maher blocked a shot from Gavin West at the buzzer to secure the Governors second consecutive win. Andrew Coverdale led the Governors with a career high 18 points and was the only double figure scorer. Cedrick Stabber led 3 Sturgis double figure scorers with 17. The win improves the Governors record to 4-4 on the season. Sturgis lost for the third consecutive game and saw their record fall to 7-3.
