PIERRE, S.D. – The Pierre Governor basketball team was no match for Sioux Falls Washington as the Warriors cruised to a 71-41 win at Riggs High Gym on Thursday. The Warriors scored the first 12 points of the game only to see Pierre cut to 4 in the second period before Washington closed out the period on an 8-2 run to take a 29-19 lead into the locker room. The third quarter did the Govs in as Washington out scored Pierre 20-5 in the period and eased to the victory from there. Eli Williams led Washington off the bench with 20 points and Ganin Thompson added 14 as Washington won for the just the 4th time this season. Grey Zabel had 12 in the losing effort for Pierre that saw the Governors fall to 4 and 8 on the season. Pierre also turned the ball over 21 times in the game as they look to bounce back with a matchup in Brandon against 2nd ranked Brandon Valley on Saturday.
SIOUX FALLS, S.D — The Pierre Lady Governors trailed 14-3 after one quarter and could never get any closer as they were handed a 48-29 defeat at Sioux Falls Washington Thursday night. The inside presence of the Warriors forced the Lady Govs to settle for mostly perimeter shot attempts throughout the game, as they were limited to around 20 percent shooting. Samiya Jami scored 16 points and Sydni Schetnan 12 to lead the Warriors, who ended a 3-game skid. Emily Mikkelsen led all scorers with 22 of her team’s 29 total points as Pierre fell to 2-10 on the season. Next up for Lady Govs will be their first home game in almost a month Saturday against third ranked Brandon Valley.
