PIERRE, S.D. – The Oahe Capitals boys varsity hockey team is in first place in the South Dakota State High School league after playing to a tie against Sioux Falls on Saturday and then posting a 6-5 win over the Mitchell Marlins on Sunday. On Saturday, Spencer Wedin and Raef Briggs scored goals late in the third period to finish in a 4-4 tie with Sioux Falls. On Sunday, the Capitals held off a Mitchell comeback effort in a 6-5 win. Oahe built a 6-2 lead Talon Greise’s goal at 3:12 of the third period before the Marlins scored 3 times. Spencer Wedin had a hat trick for the Capitals. Kin Paul and Elliot Lief also scored for Oahe who then went into first place in the league by a point when Sioux Falls and Huron finished in a 4-4 tie in Huron. The Capitals return to action on Friday when they travel to Rapid City to face the Rushmore Thunder who also are in fight for the league lead.
