Pierre Swimmers Head to Speedo Sectional Competition

PIERRE, S.D. – Following a very successful state meet, ten members of the Pierre Swim Team, along with coach Kent Huckins will travel to Rochester MN this week to compete in the USA Swimming Speedo Sectionals. The meet will include top swimmers from Colorado, Nebraska, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. The meet is an open competition, meaning there are no age groups. Swimmers must meet qualifying standards to compete. Ella Ward-Zeller leads the team having qualified in 11 individual events. She will complete in 7 of those. Michelle Weiss, Caleb Huizenga, Morgan Nelson and Canyon Jones each have three individual races. Nick Loe will compete in two individual events. Marlee Dravland, Thomas Kropp, Morgan Jones and Aidan Burke will join their teammates as members of qualifying relay teams. They will also have the opportunity to swim individual time trials with hope of qualifying for next year’s meet. This is the largest contingent to represent the Pierre team at the Sectional meet. Competition gets underway Thursday afternoon and concludes Sunday night.
