PIERRE, S.D. – Pierre Swim Team held their annual awards banquet on Sunday, March 31, at the Pat Duffy Community Center in Fort Pierre. The evening started out with highlighting the seniors: Caleb Huizenga, Dmitri Mutchelknaus, Layne Uecker, Adam Schochenmaier, Annabelle Simpson, Marlee Dravland and Cayden Barry. Pierre Swim Team Head Coach Kent Hucking explained that this year PST had the most state champions in the history of the team. The top awards handed out were the The Coach’s Choice Award going to Jonas Olson. Even though Jonas had an injury at the State Championship Swim Meet, he pushed through to ensure his relay team had a chance to compete. He was given this award due to his dedication to the team and the sport. The Swimmer’s Choice Award is voted on by the athletes. This year’s recipient was Caleb Huizenga. Huizenga was also awarded the male Swimmer of the Year. The female Swimmer of the Year was Ella Ward-Zeller. Pierre Swim Team will start Long Course season practice soon and will be competing again in early June.
