PIERRE, S.D. – Pierre Governor senior track and field standout Jack Maher has been selected as April’s Warrior of the Month at Riggs High School. Maher has done it all. He has been a multiple sport athlete, participating in three school sports, as well as high school baseball. Jack has been a two-time All-State football player, two-time All ESD football player, and a two-time place winner at the state track meet. He has also been a starter for the last two Governor State Football Championship teams. Jack currently ranks 6th in school history in the discus throw. Away from the classroom and athletic fields, Jack involves himself in the community. Jack is involved in 4-H, is a referee for Special Olympics basketball, and cleans up the Stanley County Fairgrounds. Jack serves as a volunteer for youth football, mentors at Jefferson and Buchanan Elementary schools, and at a local daycare. Jack’s future plans are to attend the University of South Dakota and major in pre-law. The “Warrior of the Month” award was created as a way to recognize students involved in athletics, fine arts, and other extracurricular activities at T.F. Riggs High School. This award is presented to our students in partnership with the South Dakota National Guard. Others nominated for the award were Luke Leingang of the Governor tennis team, Will Kessler of the Riggs High Choir and Phil Adam of the Governor School Newspaper.
