WATERTOWN, S.D. – The Pierre Lady Governor golf teams climbed to 5th in the standings after day 1 of the South Dakota Class AA Girls Golf Tournament at the Cattail Crossing Country Club course in Watertown. Pierre shot a 356 and trails the front runner, Sioiux Falls O’Gorman by 43 shots. Aberdeen Central is second with a first round 332 team score. Carley Kunkel of Sioux Falls O’Gorman and Morgan Strahl of Yankton fired 75’s and hold a 2 shot leed over Reese Jansa of Harrisburg going into today second and final round. Annabelle Simpson had a 81 and is tied for 11th for the top score of the first round for the Lady Governors. Hallie Gronlund fired a 88 and is tie for 25th. Anna Otto came in with a 93 while Jessa McTighe had a 94 and Kaitlynn Swensen a 97. The second and final round of the tournament will be today with champions determined.
ABERDEEN, S.D. – West Central has the team lead after day 1 of the Girls State Class A golf tournament at the Moccasin Creek Country Club in Aberdeen. The Trojans fired a 351 team score and hold a 15 shot lead over runner up Sisseton. There is a tie at the top of the leaderboard as Peyton Birkeland of Belle Fourhe and Kelsey Heath of Sisseton each fired opening round 77’s and are one shot up on Lauryn Driscoll of West Central. 4 shots seperate the top 4 golfers. The second round of the championship is today.
YANKTON, S.D. – Burke fired a 268 team score and holds a 1 shot lead over Deubrook Area going into the second and final round of the Girls State Class B Golf tournament at the Fox Run Golf Course in Yankton. Flandreau is third at 304. Individually, Courtni Frank of Deubrook is the first round leader with a 81 and hold a 2 shot lead over runner up Taylee Indahl of Burke. Josi Rush of Philip is third after an opening round 87, Erin Moncur of Miller is fourth at 88.

The Class B Boys Golf Tournament is being played at Hillcrest Country Club in Yankton where James Valley Christian fired an opening round 246 and hold a 12 shot lead over runner up Deubrook Area. Platte-Geddes is third at 258. JVC’s Carter Wells is the individual leader after the first day firing a 76 and holds a 3 shot lead over teammate Austin Boomsma.
