Fort Pierre is hosting its first annual Sioux Nation Challenge Indian Relay Races this weekend (June 29-30) at the Stanley County Fairgrounds.
Horse Nations Indian Relay Council president Calvin Ghost Bear says four to five teams compete at the same time.
Ghost Bear says the Fort Pierre races are the 4th of 13 qualifying events for the finals in September.
President of the Fort Pierre Chamber Shane Kramme says tickets are available at the gate.
Gates open at noon. Races start at 2pm both days.
The Champion of the Sioux Nation Challenge will go on to compete at the Indian Relay Race Championship in Walla Walla, WA, September 20-22.
