Volunteers are needed for the 10th annual Missouri River/Lake Sharpe Cleanup this evening (Wed. July 10) from 5-8pm based out of Downs Marina in Griffin Park in Pierre.
Paul Lepisto with the Izaak Walton League of America says previous cleanup events have taken over 19 tons of trash out of the water.
Bret Afdahl with Central South Dakota Walleyes Unlimited says each year they find a vast array of items.

The Missouri River/Lake Sharpe Cleanup is a coordinated effort between the Central South Dakota Chapter of Walleyes Unlimited, the Pierre Chapter of the Izaak Walton League, South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks, US Fish and Wildlife Service, US Army Corps of Engineers, the South Dakota Department of Corrections and the cities of Pierre and Fort Pierre. Many area businesses and other organizations also donate and contribute to the effort.
